Long Beach Transit is currently recruiting for a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for the supervision of mechanics and utility workers in the maintenance and repair of buses and equipment.

Here's a quick look at the organization you will join: we provide 22x7 public transportation for Long Beach and other neighboring cities. With a total of 470 Bus Operators, we have 228 buses (including standard buses as well as our smaller Passport vehicles, and others) in service at any one time. We plan to continue offering a wide range of transportation options to Long Beach, and to remain ahead of the curve for public transit.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedule and assign vehicle repair work.
  • Maintain vehicle repair records and prepare maintenance related reports using Ellipse.
  • Supervise work quality and productivity of mechanics and utility workers.
  • Diagnose vehicle defects and/or equipment problems.
  • Interpret and administer provisions of the Labor Agreement pertaining to the Maintenance Department.
  • Use effective employee communication, training, counseling and appraisal techniques.
  • Participate in disciplinary hearings.
  • Oversee special project planning & administration.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years experience in transit maintenance and 2 years college or trade school with emphasis on diesel repairs.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for education. Must have experience as a journeyman diesel mechanic with knowledge of bus technology.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to schedule/assign work; maintain records; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; counsel/train employees; interpret and administer a labor agreement.
  • Previous supervisory experience and computer skills are desired.
  • Position requires the ability to obtain a Class B CDL and the availability to work nights and weekends.
  • A current (within last 30 days) H-6 DMV printout must be provided with the application to demonstrate safe driving record (no exceptions).

Salary Structure

$4,369 - $5,350 per month (DOQ) . Long Beach Transit offers an attractive benefit package, which includes vacation, sick and holiday pay along with full medical, dental and vision coverage. We also provide employee assistance, tuition reimbursement, deferred compensation, company paid pension plan and other benefits.
