The Requirements

The Role

Role Overview

Reporting to the IT Manager, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing infrastructure and applications to support the growth of the business and to promote a highly available and stable computing environment. This will include contributing to the overall engineering, design, build and high-level support of all existing and new network infrastructure. You'll work with two Network Engineers, other members of the IT team and internal stakeholders to develop consensus and find solutions.

The role involves both responsive, tactical work as well as forward-looking, strategic work. In addition to helping maintain the network on a daily basis, you will support initiatives such as those mentioned above. In addition, we are planning to implement UCAS in conjunction with the data center relocation.

Role Specifics

As Senior Network Engineer, you will:
  • Plan, coordinate, oversee, manage, implement, troubleshoot, and administer complex network administration and projects involving researching, installing, configuring and maintaining all network hardware and software, including the VMWare, Storage Area Network (SAN), LAN and WAN environments switches, routers, and firewalls for network functionality and security
  • Serve as a resource and consultant to managers, supervisors, and employees regarding the resolution of complex network administration
  • Design, implement and upgrade complex network architecture to accommodate growing communication requirements
  • Receive, prioritize, assign, and/or respond to incoming work orders, calls and/or emails regarding network and helpdesk requests
  • Plan, manage and oversee the daily functions, operations, and activities of the network including checking backups, SAN devices and Windows servers’ logs for issues
  • Provide mentoring and technical training to Network Administrators on new hardware and software
  • Monitor network environment for critical and high-priority security anomalies and errors, reporting and escalation of issues for immediate action response
  • Assist in the development, configuration, implementation and maintenance of perimeter security, internal network and endpoint security solutions
  • Monitor and maintain network access control limiting access to authorized devices only
  • Perform threat analysis for breach conditions and implementing remediation
  • Provide the required daily support, maintenance, and management of the platforms
  • Provide Level II/III network support and repair, as well as escalation to Manager, Information Technology
  • Provide 24x7 On-Call Escalation Support (rotation-based/full-week support)
  • Author internal documentation, such as environment diagrams, installation/configuration and release notes
  • Troubleshoot and debug problems found in the production and non-production environments
  • Design and validate the hardware layer sustaining corporate solutions, based on resiliency and performance expectations
  • Build and maintain tools for automation, integration, deployment, backup, monitoring and operations, allowing for a sub-linear scale-up of agency activities
  • Assist in managing the corporate systems in a racked data center environment
  • Create network plans, document the existing network and communicate with business partners to establish connectivity
  • Negotiate with technical solution providers and vendors to provide recommendations on equipment purchases and upgrades to the existing network infrastructure
  • Help ensure the agency’s network infrastructure is compliant with NIST Cyber Security Framework
  • Perform other duties as needed
