Summary

This temporary, part-time position provides technical support and administrative assistance for the Service Development Department. Responsibilities include maintaining transit operations and ridership associated databases, providing field analysis of service issues, and collecting and analyzing field data to provide effective and efficient scheduling and routing solutions associated with the operation of LBT's fixed bus route service.

With a total of 470 Bus Operators, we have 228 buses (including standard buses as well as our smaller Passport vehicles, and others) in service at any one time. We plan to continue offering a wide range of transportation options to Long Beach, and to remain ahead of the curve for public transit.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and develops internal and external reports and data formatting relating to transit operations characteristics
• Supports operations cost scenario development based on scheduling and run cutting techniques in the development of new services or the modification of current services
• Conducts and analyzes on-going field analysis of existing and proposed services
• Assists in the preparation of road supervisor and operator assignment documents such as vehicle schedules and narrative instructions
• Generates transit operations performance improvement measures using Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and other related data such as TransSmart program, fare collection and passenger counting system
• Conducts technical research as required and performs other related departmental work

Qualifications

• A full time four year college student or graduate student majoring in Urban or Planning, Engineering, Geography or a related field.
• Detail oriented and experienced in quantitative data analysis
• Good communication and organizational skills
• Proficient in MS Office applications, Excel, Word, Access
• Must be eligible to work in the United States
