Summary

This position is responsible for for all aspects of server support as well as support for web based business applications and software products, including the design and development of programs and reports that facilitate the exchange of information between systems and enhance end-user capabilities.  In this capacity, this position troubleshoots problems related to Linux, Windows, Apache, IIS and other web based applications. This position reports to the Manager of Information Systems.

With a total of 470 Bus Operators, we have 228 buses (including standard buses as well as our smaller Passport vehicles, and others) in service at any one time. We plan to continue offering a wide range of transportation options to Long Beach, and to remain ahead of the curve for public transit.

Duties and Responsibilities

More specifically, the individual in this role:

• Supports and maintains web based applications.
• Provides programming support of Enterprise Intranet. 
• Develops, tests and implements web based applications in Linux and Windows environments.
• Creates and maintain sweb forms, database, interfaces, layouts and website graphics.
• Completes assigned software support tasks within designated time frames and in accordance with company standards.
• Interacts and advises internal staff on strategies and methods of analyzing and resolving application problems. 
• Works closely with the manufacturer to investigate, resolve code errors, test quality of modified codes received from manufacturer to maintain system’s integrity prior to moving the resolution to the Production environment.
• Communicates regularly with end users.

Qualifications

Required skills:

• Experience administering Linux and Windows
• Administration of Java application servers
• Manage Apache and IIS servers
• HTML, Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver
• Web infrastructure security
• Knowledge of web application development concepts
• Open source software experience
• Strong user support skills with the ability to resolve difficult system issues and maintain effective working relationships with the software manufacturer
• Platform experience with Red Hat Linux
• Experience with Windows Server
• Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office
• An understanding of software engineering process and software lifecycle
• Ability to contribute to business process analysis from the perspective of the application systems
• Strong written and verbal skills
• Ability to learn quickly

Education and experience:

• A bachelor's degree in Compute rScience, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
• At least two years of experience in software maintenance and support, and two years of experience in developing and/or supporting commercial client-server Enterprise applications.
• Must be a self-motivated individual with strong problem solving skills.

Salary Structure

$4,369 - $5,350/month (DOQ) with excellent fringe benefits.

Employment is conditional upon successfully passing a physical, a drug and alcohol test, and a background investigation.
