Summary

This position reports to the Manager of Maintenance Technology. The purpose of this position is to serve as LBT's internal warranty claims administrator. The Quality Assurance Specialist will fulfill the duties of the Quality Assurance group with an emphasis in hybrid bus failure trends and tracking. This position also requires the diagnosis of vehicle failures, subsequent documentation and communication of said findings to the maintenance department.

With a total of 470 Bus Operators, we have 228 buses (including standard buses as well as our smaller Passport vehicles, and others) in service at any one time. We plan to continue offering a wide range of transportation options to Long Beach, and to remain ahead of the curve for public transit.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Tracks and analyzes fleet repair records to determine failure rates and causes. Makes effective recommendations based on these findings. Develops and prepares independent hybrid vehicle repair records and maintenance related reports.
  • Oversees warranty claims with suppliers, tracks claims, and accounts for reimbursements.
  • Investigates and diagnoses vehicle defects and/or equipment problems, and disseminates findings with maintenance staff. This will involve tutoring/training of mechanics as necessary.
  • Communicates interdepartmentally and represents Long Beach Transit when dealing with outside agencies/vendors in a professional manner.
  • Supervises special projects, including development of scopes of work, manages resources efficiently (time, parts, and labor), manages scheduling, and tracks through completion.
  • Collaborates to create policy and changes to existing practices (Standard operating procedures, recommendations to parts department etc.)
  • Takes action to correct and/or report unsafe conditions or actions to the Safety Officer; insures that personal protective equipment is worn when necessary; investigates and reports all accidents and incidents.
  • Complies with all safety regulations as stated in the company safety program, and reports safety-related accidents, incidents, and unsafe work conditions. Attends safety-training programs as required.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as a transit bus journeyman mechanic, other heavy-equipment experience will be considered.
  • Excellent understanding of the mechanics of the hybrid technology system is required.
  • Strong analytical, professional communication skills are required.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees.
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends.
  • Must be computer literate with an emphasis in MS Office. Experience with Corvu, and Ellipse is desirable.
  • Possession of a valid California Class B driver's license is required.
